Background

On 31st October 1517, Martin Luther nailed his 95 theses to the church door in Wittenberg, detailing his objections to various church doctrines.

Within a few years Europe was swept by religious ferment which shaped nations.

In England under Henry VIIIth the relationship between church and state was irrevocably altered.

But the Reformation changed more than church organisation. It changed how people lived and worked, it changed art and music and the consequences down the centuries changed social organisation which still affects our lives today.
